Let's start from the beginning. We both attended private Christian colleges. Alex attended Houghton College in upstate New York. Mel attended Bethel College in Indiana. Both schools participate in satellite programs across the country/world. One such satellite program was the Los Angeles Film Studies Center.
The LAFSC is a semester long program for Christian college students who want to learn the biz.
Alex attended the Fall 2001 semester. During his semester in LA he met Wiafe. Wiafe was a Bethel, IN student. So they meet and become friends. After that semester both go back to their respective colleges and finish their degrees. They remained close and, shortly after graduation, Alex and Wiafe both moved to Los Angeles.
Mel attended the LAFSC in Fall of 2002. She graduated that December and moved to LA in January of 2003.
Due to the Bethel, IN connection, Mel and Wiafe were friends.
On November 1st of 2003 a mutual friend of Wiafe's and Mel's, named Perry, decided to organize a little post-Halloween breakfast. Perry called Mel to say, "Hey a bunch of us are going to Denny's. Why don't you come to?" Mel's response, "Who's going?". Perry, "me, Wiafe, Wiafe's friend-" Mel, "Hmm... Wiafe is bringing a friend? Ok, I'll be there."
The rest is pretty much history. We met that morning and after about six weeks of Mel chasing Alex, they went out.
Mel knew right away this was something pretty special. Alex needed about 7-8 weeks to realize what a good thing he had. Eventually he figured it out.
We got married April 2006.
There's nothing like getting to marry your best friend.
(Here we are one year later, celebrating our anniversary.)
I think that covers how we met. More to come...
