Our 3rd Wedding Anniversary

For our 3rd anniversary we drove up to Solvang for a lovely weekend of wine tasting! We drove up Friday night and ate dinner at an amazing restaurant in Ventura called Brooks. It was recommended to us by Alex's boss, Lisa. Wonderful service and fantastic food.

Saturday morning we had breakfast the The Belgian Cafe. I had a delicious Belgium waffle!!

After breakfast we boarded the Grapleline shuttle and started out a on 4 vineyard wine tour. Here we are waiting for the shuttle.

The first stop was Curtis. The wine barrels behind us each cost around 10K!!!

We got a tour of facility at Curtis too. Look at all these barrels of wine...

After Curtis we went over to Koehler. This was probably our favorite place. The guy pooring our tastings was hilarious and the very opposite of all the wine snobs. His favorite phrase "it's grape juice!" Koehler had an emu (above) and a ram (below). Interesting "farm" for a vineyard.

We also had lunch at Koehler. The wine tour company provided us with a lovely picnic lunch that we ate under some beautiful shaded trees!

The third stop was Foxen. The movie "Sideways" shot a scene in this tasting room.

Foxen gave everyone on our tour a temporary tattoo of their logo. Alex looks good with ink, doesn't he? : )

Our forth and final stop was at Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters). We bought a bottle of wine from each vineyard we visited so we'll have the opportunity to reminisce over a glass for awhile to come!

They had a mechanical horse named "Champion" that you could ride for 50 cents. I wanted to ride side saddle, like a lady. ; )

Alex was a little more enthusiastic about the ride.

Tres Hermanas had an old wagon that we had to take advantage of. Unfortunately, we can never find someone to take our picture that takes pics as well as Alex. Sigh, oh well.

This is how our photo should have looked... these are random people on our tour. I just wanted you to see the full wagon.

Saturday night we had dinner at the Los Olivos Cafe. There was a dinner scene in "Sideways" shot in this cafe!

See the wine bottles behind Sandra Oh? See if they look familiar in the next couple pics.

Sunday morning we went over to Sue and Bob Levin's house. Sue is the head of HR at my office. They took us to a miniature horse farm to see the horses. SOOO cute!!

This little guy is only one day old!

After the horse farm we had breakfast with Sue and Bob at the Vineyard House. Then headed home (with a quick stop at the Camarillo outlets!). It was a great weekend!!!

Love, Mel
